When I was a boy I wanted to be David Copperfield. No, not the Dickens character. The illusionist. That’s right. My dream was to perform impressive feats of theatrical wonder on stage for millions, complete with the smoke, lights, and pretty girls. While I never quite made it to Vegas, in my early adult life I did perform professionally for 7 years. It was quite an adventure.

I finally realized that pretty girls do not, in fact, think that magicians are cool. So I tried managing hotels. Much cooler. And by the grace of God, I was good at it. My career spanned Houston, Atlanta, and eventually Wyoming…where I fell in love with mountains and hiking. To date, I’ve hiked countless miles up and down mountains all over the country. Again, quite an adventure.

A few years ago God asked me to follow Him on a new trail. This one leads to full-time ministry as a pastor. I’m currently a student at Grace School of Theology, and in my role at Cypress Bible Church I’m walking by faith on that new trail. There are mountains on this trail too…and valleys I am sure. But God is with me, and He can do exceedingly and abundantly beyond all I could ever ask or imagine. I think this adventure may be the best one yet.
