INTRODUCTION.

DISCUSSION.

How does popular culture influence body image, whether positive or negative?

EXAMINATION.

Vv.12-14   How can something be lawful but not helpful?

What does Paul mean that he won’t be dominated by anything, even if it’s lawful?

It seems like the Corinthians were equate the body’s natural need for food with a natural need for sexual satisfaction. How does Paul address that?

Vv.15-17  In what sense are “your bodies members of Christ?

The word “joined” means to be glued or cemented together. What is Paul warning against when he talks about being joined to a prostitute?

Is Paul saying that if you have sex with someone you are then married to them? Why or why not?

How is that physical connection related to the spirit connection with the Lord?

Vv.18-20  What is sexual immorality?

How does Paul say the Christian should deal with sexual immorality?

Sexual sin is not the worst sin. What does it mean that the immoral person sins against his own body?

Why is the Christian “not his own”?

APPLICATION.

  • Our culture has a very different view of sexual behavior. How does viewing your body as belonging to God impact your behavior?
  • Consider these 5 ways to honor God with your body:

1.  Eat, drink, work, and play with thanksgiving (1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:17)

2.  Run away from sexual sin and learn self-control (1 Thess. 4:3-5)

3.  Persist in doing good things especially for believers (Gal. 6:9-10)

4.  Care for your physical self (1 Cor. 6:19-20)

5.  Express praise and worship to God in Jesus’ name (Heb. 13:15)

  • Which of these five are the most challenging?
  • Which one of the five will you work on this week to glorify God?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
