SERIES TITLE: REASON TO REJOICE

PART TWO: Suffering

TEXT:  Romans 5:3-5

INTRODUCTION.

In the New Testament, the word “rejoice” (kauchaomai) is used 35 times. It means to boast or take pride in something or someone. Over the next three weeks, we will study Romans 5:1-11. This passage gives three different reasons to rejoice.

DISCUSSION.

Describe a time when you rejoiced. How did you express that joy?

EXAMINATION.

V.3   Is it only suffering that comes because we are Christians that we should/can rejoice in? Why or why not?

Should someone who does not believe be told to rejoice in their suffering? Why or why not?

How does pressure give us the resistance we need to grow?

V.4   Since this is written only to those who have already been justified by Christ, this is not a test of salvation. So what does it “prove”? (see 1 Peter 1:7)

V.5   How does pressure increase the certainty of our hope?

How would a better understanding of the love of God help us to rejoice in suffering?
