SERIES TITLE: The Art of Worship

PART FOUR: When Praise Breaks Loose

TEXT:  Psalm 150

INTRODUCTION.

The Psalms served as the hymnal, prayer book, and devotional guide for the Jewish people. Made up of 150 songs, Psalms covers a full range of human experience. In this series, we will focus on four Psalms that deal with unique aspects of worship.

DISCUSSION.

At what event or under what circumstances will you cheer or sing loudest? Why?

EXAMINATION.

Consider these three features of explosive praise:

V.1 Praise breaks loose when it is a shared experience.

  • If Israel’s sanctuary was the temple building, where is ours?

V.2 Praise breaks loose when it is God-centered.

  • What are the “acts of power” and “greatness” for which God deserves praise?

Vv.3-5 Praise breaks loose when it is unreserved.

  • What do these verses tell us about the variety and intensity of worship?

 APPLICATION.

  • Although God can be worshiped anywhere, why is corporate worship important?
  • What causes you to hold back in worshiping God and why?
  • Is your praise and worship mostly intellectual, emotional, or physical and why?
  • How do you keep worship God-centered?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
