Introduction.

The book of Daniel describes events during the time Israel was held captive in the land of Babylon. Daniel and his three friends so impressed the enemy King Nebuchadnezzar, that they were given positions in his government. These heroes, and even the villain, have much to teach us about living for God in our world.

INTRODUCTION.

DISCUSSION

Share about a time when you felt really good about something, only to have someone else be jealous or unhappy.

EXAMINATION.

Vv.1-3 How could Daniel continue in a high position for a new king?

Vv.4-5 Why are the other administrators so jealous?

Vv.6-9 Why does their devious plan work?

Vv.10-11 What is so impressive about Daniel’s response?

Vv.12-18 Why is the king so upset? Does he really care about Daniel?

Why do you think Daniel doesn’t defend himself?

Vv.19-28 Why did God work this way, stopping the mouths of the lions?

Do you think Darius became a believer? Why or why not?

APPLICATION.

  • God has not rescued from danger every person who trusted him. Why not?
  • What could we learn from Daniel about the following situations:
    • Living among unbelievers?
    • Facing lies and challenges to our faith?
    • Loss because of obedience to God?
    • Faithfulness in spite of a lack of success?
  • When in your life have you experienced God while in a “lions’ den” of skeptics or critics?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
