DISCUSSION

If you’ve spent time with someone who constantly brags, how did it make you feel?

EXAMINATION.

Vv.1-3 What do these verses reveal about how the story will turn out?

Vv.4-9 Pick out what is good and what is bad in what the king says here.

Vv.10-18 How is this tree like Nebuchadnezzar?

What hope is conveyed by leaving the stump and roots?

Vv.19-27 Based on Daniel’s response, how does he feel about the king?

Does it seem like the king has a chance to change, or is the judgment unalterable? Why?

Vv.28-37 What does the immediacy of judgment tell us about God’s power?

How could the king lose everything so quickly and be restored so completely 7 years later?

Note the repetition in v.17b, v.25b, 32b. What is the theme?

APPLICATION.

  • Several Scriptures say that God opposes the proud (1 Peter 5:5). Why does God oppose pride, and how does he do it today?
  • What are some of the obstacles to humility in our society and how do we overcome?
  • When and how do you struggle to recognize the fact that God Rules?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
