Introduction.

We learn in Romans 12:1-2 that we are to renew our minds and live a sacrificial life for the Lord as we have been rescued from hell by the grace of God (being positionally in Adam). One of the most difficult aspects of living sacrificially for the Lord is in our relationships with people (both believers and unbelievers). Paul is very specific in how a believer should live in regards to our neighbors in Romans 12:9-21 as we are positionally in Christ.

TEXT: Romans 12:9-21

INTRODUCTION.

We learn in Romans 12:1-2 that we are to renew our minds and live a sacrificial life for the Lord as we have been rescued from hell by the grace of God (being positionally in Adam). One of the most difficult aspects of living sacrificially for the Lord is in our relationships with people (both believers and unbelievers). Paul is very specific in how a believer should live in regards to our neighbors in Romans 12:9-21 as we are positionally in Christ.

DISCUSSION

  • When is it easy to love people? When is it difficult? Why?
  • How do we react and interact to those that our against us?

EXAMINATION.

Vv. 9-13

What is genuine love?

What does it mean to hate evil?

What does rejoicing in hope mean?

How can we be constant in prayer?

Vv. 14-16

How do we bless those that persecute us?

What does it mean to rejoice with those who rejoice?

How do you live in harmony with the world without succumbing to it?

How do you live in harmony with your church family?

Vv. 17-21

Why are we to never seek out revenge against those who persecute us?

How does it look to live peaceably with others in your life? Who do you need to live peaceably with today?

Why is it so difficult to show love towards your enemies?

APPLICATION.

  • What relationships in your life do you need to live out these specific instructions in today? How will you do that?
  • How do you fight the evil of the world as it tries to creep into our church body?
  • It's a pretty radical thought to repay hate with love in today's time. How can we do that effectively in order to show that we as believers are truly "set apart?"
  • As followers of Christ, our walk will have its ups and downs. How can we praise in the ups and pray in the downs?
