SERIES TITLE: Generosity

SESSION ONE: Generosity Feeds Your Soul

TEXT: Proverbs 11:24-25

Generosity Feeds Your Soul

What is one of the smarter things you’ve done with your money? What is one of the more foolish things?

  • V.24 In what way is more gained by giving freely?
  • What does it mean to “withhold unduly” and why does that result in poverty?
  • Compare this proverb to Jesus’ words in Luke 6:38, and the Apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7. How are the messages the same?
  • V.25 This Hebrew word translated “prosper” occurs 11 times in the OT. Since none of them have anything to do with money, what kind of prosperity is referred to?
  • Generosity keeps us from “trusting in riches” which is something the Bible warns against (see Proverbs 11:28; Matthew 6:24). In what ways do we trust in riches?

  • If Scattered Generosity Expands Our Soul Satisfaction how is that satisfaction experienced?
  • What do you think of these 4th century words from Basil the Great, and how do they apply to this proverb?
  • "The bread you do not use is the bread of the hungry. The garment hanging in your wardrobe is the garment of the person who is naked. The shoes you do not wear are the shoes of the one who is barefoot. The money you keep locked away is the money of the poor."
  • What should motivate you to be generous?
  • What does real generosity look like?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
