SESSION THREE: Programming for Truth

TEXT: Ephesians 4:25

INTRODUCTION.

This four-part series focuses on new life in Christ. How does faith in Jesus change us? How should our attitudes, emotions, and actions be different from anyone else?

DISCUSSION.

What is sanctification, and if we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, why should we care about it?

EXAMINATION.

Why do you think “truth” is first on the list of what it means to “put off” the old self and “put on” the new?

Read Jesus’ words in John 8:42-45. Based on that, what is the significance of truth?

Describe the difference between putting off falsehood and speaking the truth. Is it possible to do one without the other? Why or why not?

Consider this statement: “The closer the relationship between us, the greater your responsibility to speak truth into my life.” Where do you see this principle in our text?

According to Ephesians 4, what kind of truth-tellers should we be?

APPLICATION.

  • Which do you struggle with more: self-centered lies or other-centered lies? Why?
  • Think of a time someone spoke the truth into your life. Identify what was done right, and how it benefited you.
  • Has there been a time when no one told you truth you needed to hear? Why do you think they didn’t?
  • Can you identify a relationship where you need to speak truth? How will you be obedient?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
