Introduction.

Life is a battle. You fight others. Others fight you. You fight yourself. Why is life a battlefield? What can be done about it? How will the battle end? Over the next three weeks, we will answer these questions in the story of the Warrior. From Genesis to Revelation we have the promise of the only one who is capable of winning this war. SESSION TWO: The Warrior Rises

TEXT: Mark 16:1-8

INTRODUCTION.

Life is a battle. You fight others. Others fight you. You fight yourself. Why is life a battlefield? What can be done about it? How will the battle end? Over the next three weeks, we will answer these questions in the story of the Warrior. From Genesis to Revelation we have the promise of the only one who is capable of winning this war. Christ is that Warrior.

DISCUSSION.

In what way this week have you noticed that life is a battlefield?

EXAMINATION.

  • 16:1-3 What do the women’s actions reveal about their expectations?
  • 16:4-7 What is significant about women being the first to arrive, the first to hear of the resurrection, and the first to be given responsibility to share the news?
  • “Just as he told you” refers back to Mark 14:27-28. See also Mark 8:31, 9:31, 10:34. Jesus repeatedly and plainly told them what would happen. Why didn’t they expect it?
  • When the women are told to “tell the disciples and Peter,” why do you think Peter is mentioned separately?
  • 16:8 The earliest manuscripts end Mark’s Gospel with these words. Why this strange ending and why would people add to it?

APPLICATION.

  • Which detail about the resurrection from the Gospels are most convincing to you?
  • Who was sent to tell you that Jesus is risen?
  • How is your life different because Jesus rose from the dead?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
