Introduction.

As we look at the text in Luke, we can see that everyone is a prodigal at one point until they realize the need for the love and salvation through Christ. Even at your worst, Jesus is reaching his hand out to you saying, “I love you no matter what you have done. You are my son and daughter.” We can find hope and assurance of salvation when repentance brings us home.

INTRODUCTION.

As we look at the text in Luke, we can see that everyone is a prodigal at one point until they realize the need for the love and salvation through Christ. You are my son and daughter.” We can find hope and assurance of salvation when repentance brings us home.

DISCUSSION.

When reflecting on the story of The Prodigal Son, have you ever been in a situation involving the “younger son” or the “older son?” Please describe the situation and your response.

EXAMINATION.

Luke 15:11-16 (The younger son’s sin)

V. 12 How would it make you feel if you had a child that came up to you and wished you were dead? Why?

V. 13 Was there ever a time in which you lived recklessly? What was that time like? What do you think as you reflect back about it?

Vv. 14-15 In the reckless living, as you bottomed out, how did that feel? Please describe.

Luke 15:17-24 (The younger son’s repentance and a father’s unending love)

Vv. 17-19 What happened in order for you to “come to your senses?”

Vv. 19-20 How did it feel to be humbled by God? What was your first reaction?

Vv. 21-24 How does it feel to know that you have a God that loves you endlessly and is quick to forgive you of your sins? Why?

Luke 16:25-32 (The older son’s reaction)

V. 25 What was the older son doing when the celebration had begun? What kind of work do you think he was doing (easy or difficult)?

Vv. 26-31 How can you be on the lookout for the “prodigal” such as the father? What needs to change in your life in order for you to celebrate the “prodigal’s” return such as the father?
