Introduction

For the next 5 weeks, we study how Scripture defines worship that is acceptable. This is crucial because as Erwin Lutzer said: “If we haven’t learned to be worshippers, it really doesn’t matter how well we do anything else.” May we become the kind of worshippers that God the Father seeks.

SERIES TITLE: Acceptable Worship

SESSION THREE: Jealous

TEXT: Exodus 34:14

INTRODUCTION.

DISCUSSION.

Is jealous a negative word to you? Why or why not?

EXAMINATION.

  • What is the context for what the Lord declares in Exodus 34:14?
  • How does that inform what it means for him to be jealous?

APPLICATION.

  • What are some idols that get in the way of you giving God the honor and attention he deserves?
  • What steps could you take to deal with those rivals?
  • How can you passionately declare God’s worth? In corporate worship? At work? In your home?
  • How can you give back to God in each of the following areas: Doing (actively)? Thinking (intellectually)? Feeling (emotionally)?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
