Introduction

Noah, the ark, and the world-wide flood is one of the most familiar accounts in the Bible. Almost every culture has a similar story. Believing that the flood occurred, and happened way the Bible describes, is not the only response God intends for us. There is much to learn about who God is and how he operates in our lives.

INTRODUCTION.

Noah, the ark, and the world-wide flood is one of the most familiar accounts in the Bible. Almost every culture has a similar story. Believing that the flood occurred, and happened way the Bible describes, is not the only response God intends for us. There is much to learn about who God is and how he operates in our lives.

DISCUSSION

What kinds of situations, experiences, or surroundings prompt you to worship? Why?

EXAMINATION
8:6-7 Taking into account the opening verses of chapter 8, what was Noah able to see when he opened the window?
Based only on what is said here, what do you think the raven did and why?
8:8-12 What are all the differences between the dove’s mission and the raven’s?
Why has the dove with the olive leaf become a symbol of peace?
8:13-14 The word for “covering” occurs three times in Exodus 39:34. What purpose would such a covering serve for the ark?
8:15-19 How is this leaving of the ark like the new birth? (1 Pet. 3:20-21; 2 Cor. 5:17)
8:20-22 What is the difference between clean and unclean animals?
What is significant about Noah building the altar at this point in the story?
In what way was this offering costly or even risky?
Why didn’t the flood change the problem with humanity?

APPLICATION.

  • We don’t need to make sacrifices on altars because of the one sacrifice of Christ; but seeing Noah’s act as one of worship and thanksgiving, when should we honor God?
  • What spiritual events and experiences should we mark, and how should we mark them?
  • What “altar” do you need to build this week?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What are you going to do?
