SERIES TITLE:DIVERSITY
SESSION FOUR:Future Celebration
TEXT: Revelation 7:9-10
INTRODUCTION.
In this series, we will confront questions such as: Does God’s plan for his church include it being multi-ethnic? Is true cultural and ethnic diversity even possible for a local church? Is such diversity more trouble than it’s worth? Why should we care?

DISCUSSION.  Have you ever been part of a large group that was all dressed alike, such as a choir, marching band, or sports team? What were the positive results of that uniformity?

EXAMINATION.

Vv.9-10 Name all the ways that the great multitude is the same.

  • What is the significance of all the uniformity of the crowd, except for the ethnicity, culture, and language of the people themselves?
  • Do you think the crowd shouted the words of v.10 in one language or many? Explain your answer.
  • When the multitude cried out, how do the angels, elders, and four living creatures respond, according to 7:11-12?
  • What does all this say about God’s kingdom and Christ’s sacrifice?
  • As a result of John’s vision, what hope do you have for the future?

APPLICATION.

  • Will there be diversity in heaven? Either way, what difference does it make to us now?
  • What truth(s) from this passage guide us toward unity even when there is ethnic diversity in the church?
  • One of the objectives of this series was to encourage us to look for ways to spend time with diverse people. How difficult is it to consider worshiping with, serving with, eating with others different than you? What are the biggest barriers in your mind?
  • Another objective was that we become a church that flaunts the power of the cross through our diversity. For that to happen, what would our church or your class have to look like or accomplish?
  • In what ways do you think we could make the gospel more central so that barriers of language, custom, preference, and culture would be diminished?
  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?
  • React: What did you feel?
  • Act: What one thing could you do to apply this Scripture?
