SERIES TITLE:DIVERSITY
SESSION TWO:United by the Cross
TEXT: Ephesians 2:13-22
INTRODUCTION.
In this series, we will confront questions such as: Does God’s plan for his church include it being multi-ethnic? Is true cultural and ethnic diversity even possible for a local church? Is such diversity more trouble than it’s worth? Why should we care?

EXAMINATION.

  • Vv.13-14 Who are the groups that were brought together in Christ?

  • The word “barrier” is used by Jesus in Luke 14:23 and translated “hedges.” How does that inform our understanding of the kinds of barriers Christ has broken down?

  • Vv.15-17 In what way does the work of Jesus establish peace?

  • Vv.18-22 What are some reasons for unity among believers according to these verses?

APPLICATION.
  • What some common barriers that exist between believers today?

  • Which of those can be overcome by clinging to the cross?

  • What do you think it means to cling to the cross?

  • Which barriers do you find to be the most challenging and why?

  • If the grand purpose of the cross was to eliminate the barriers between us and God and between God’s people and each other, how should that impact your life?

  • Fact: What is a key truth that you understood from this passage?

  • React: What did you feel?

  • Act: What one thing could you do to apply this Scripture?

  • If diversity in the church demonstrates the power of the cross, what step could you take toward that?
