Spiritual Formation Groups

GROW Groups at CBC is one significant way that we try to work with the Holy Spirit to achieve our purpose of “beginning where you are; becoming more like Jesus.” We believe that becoming more like Jesus happens as believers meet together around God’s Word in a balanced environment of truth, love and mission.

It is the goal of GROW Groups to promote spiritual growth, defined as the character of Jesus being formed in us and the mission of Jesus lived out through us. Groups can vary in size, demographics, etc. but all have the common elements of:

  • Bible study - Studying Scripture to be equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • Prayer - Confessing to and praying for one another (James 5:16)
  • Service - Encouraging each other to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24-25)
  • Support - Caring for one another (Gal 5:13, 1Thess 5:11) and for one or more of CBC's missionaries (Philippians 4:10)

Some GROW groups meet on Sunday mornings at 8:15 am, 9:30 am and 11:00 am. GROW groups also meet in various homes during the week. Some of these are open to adding new members. Our Men’s Ministry and Women's Ministry have GROW groups as do our Middle School and High School Ministries which they call 242 Groups. Our desire is that all members and regular attenders are part of a GROW Group.

New GROW groups can form as groups grow and replicate themselves. They also can form through the CBC assimilation process which includes a four week introduction to CBC called CBC 101.

CBI

CBI was founded as a means for disciples to receive instruction in seminary level material so that they might have tools and skills to serve the Lord in their ministry context.

You have the opportunity to experience seminary level classes online and at your own pace. Registration and commitment required.  Each class has 12 sessions.  The classes are free.

  1. BH101 (Introduction to Bible and Hermeneutics): This course begins with a survey of how the Bible came together and the canon of Scripture.  Then it moves into a more intensive study of understanding the Bible in context through observation, interpretation, correlation, and application.  This class is the only prerequisite for all other classes; other courses may be taken in any order.
  1. OT101 (Old Testament Narratives): This course will focus on interpretive issues for interpreting the genre of Bible narratives in the Old Testament.  The students will be taken through the book of Genesis, and will also be exposed to extra-Biblical texts that support Genesis.

There are recommended books for each of the classes, purchase optional.

Contact Jeremy Little at if you have questions or are ready to get started.

Becoming More Like Jesus Studies

Cypress Bible Church describes its focus as “Beginning where you are, becoming more like Jesus.”  A team of CBC members have put together seven studies describing aspects of what it means to become more like Christ Jesus in character and mission. These studies can be done individually, as couples, or as part of a Formation Group.  We hope you will find these studies helpful on your life-long journey of being conformed to the likeness of God's Son.

Gather 201

These are five short studies to help define what CBC means by Gathering Together in Life Changing Worship.  The studies can be used in your personal Bible study or in groups.  We hope you will find them instructive and have a greater appreciation for this part of the CBC pathway to Becoming More Like Jesus.  We are always interested in feedback concerning the studies we provide and any suggestions for their improvement.

Our church now has access to an extensive, video library called RightNow Media! It’s like the "Netflix of Video Bible Studies" and has a large library of faith-based videos that you can access whenever and wherever you want—on your phone, iPad, computer, or at home on your TV.  To sign up click on this link:
