Food for the Hungry/Kenya
CBC is forming an Information Technology Missions Team that will work in partnership with Food for the Hungry (FH), an organization dedicated to ending physical and spiritual hungers worldwide. FH workers live and work in areas of the world devastated by poverty, where technological support is sorely lacking. This trip will provide a unique opportunity for those with special training and giftedness in information technology to utilize these gifts to equip staff in Marsabit, Kenya to accomplish the work they were called to do.
While working in Marsabit, team leaders will gain valuable experience in addressing the special challenges that arise in maintaining technology in the developing world.
Upon their return, team members will have ongoing opportunities to use this experience to provide remote and onsite support to CBC missionaries and other Christian organizations working in remote areas.
The team will be led by CBC’s Rick Richter, Senior Director of Information Technology for FH, who has spent the last 25 years installing, designing, supporting and maintaining technology in mission and developing world environments.
What will the team do while in Kenya?
~ Mentor local FH IT staff: The staff works in very difficult situations, working with the least served on a daily basis. Working alongside them, the team will provide prayer, encouragement and support.
~ Train FH staff: Staff members are very appreciative and receptive to training and advice related to technology.
~ Improve technology: The team will directly improve the technology of the offices visited.
~ Gain practical experience: The team will gain understanding of the especially challenging conditions of the developing world.
This trip is open to adults and older teens with a high level of the appropriate technical skills.
